Newberry hosts Anderson on Saturday afternoon

NEWBERRY - With a week in between contests, the Newberry Wolves look to continue their victorious ways on the season as they host the Anderson Trojans (2-4, 1-2) on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Eleazer Arena.

Newberry (7-0, 3-0) comes into the contest having defeated the Southern Wesleyan Warriors on Friday November 28, 118-78. The Wolves shot 10-of-13 from behind the arc in the second half en route to the win. Demarkus Smith paced the way with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting as well as tallying seven assists and only one turnover. Dondray Walker poured in 20 points for the Wolves including 5-of-9 from distance.

With their strong start to the season, Newberry currently sits No. 22 in the D2SIDA National Poll and third in the D2SIDA Southeast Regional Poll. In the NABC poll, Newberry is third highest in the receiving votes category.

For the Trojans, they are led by senior guard Myson Jones who averages 14.7 points per game as well as Nick Jackson with 12.7 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. Anderson enters Saturday's contest having defeated Brevard 78-75 on Wednesday evening behind DJ McGowan's 24 points and Jackson's 20 points. The only other victory on the season for Anderson came against Young Harris on November 19, 83-82.

Up next for Newberry is a non-conference contest with College of Faith (Charlotte) on Wednesday December 10, followed by Southern Wesleyan on December 13.
