COLUMBUS, GA - Following victories against the Catawba Indians and Southern Wesleyan Warriors, the Newberry College men's basketball team has climbed two spots to third place in the D2SIDA Southeast Regional Poll published every Monday afternoon.
Tuesday evening in Salisbury, N.C. the Wolves found victory against the Catawba Indians, 108-11 behind Demarkus Smith's career-tying 24 point performance on 8-of-13 shooting and snagging five rebounds, while James Stepp poured in a new career-high with 18 points of his own.
On Friday evening the Wolves travelled to Central, S.C. for a non-conference contest against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan. En route to a 118-78 throttling, Newberry was led again by Smith who had 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting and seven assists and Dondray Walker who tallied 20 points on the evening while shooting 7-of-12 in the game.
Upcoming for the Scarlet and Gray is a South Atlantic Conference matchup with the Anderson Trojans on Saturday December 6 at 4 p.m. from Eleazer Arena in Newberry. Following is a weeknight contest versus College of Faith from Charlotte, N.C.
Fellow conference member Lincoln Memorial sits in second place this week, 12 votes ahead of Newberry. Those two teams will meet on December 15 at Lincoln Memorial.
