NEWBERRY – Newberry Wolves redshirt senior forward Dondray Walker was recently listed as an honorable mention for the All-America Team in the 2014 edition of College Basketball Yearbook published by Sporting News magazine.
Newberry College men’s head basketball coach Dave Davis is pleased with Walker’s accomplishments thus far, “Dondray is an incredible talent and has the ability to play any position.” Davis said “He is a very dangerous offensive player and is now taking on a leadership role within the team.”
Walker’s nomination comes off the heels of a season in which he led the team in minutes per game with 25.2 and finished second in points per game at 16.3, a tenth of a point shy of classmate Demarkus Smith. Walker notched a season-high of 35 points in Newberry's thrilling 134-127 double-overtime victory against Lenoir-Rhyne on January 15, 2014
The three team all-South Atlantic Conference player, twice second team in 2011-12 and 2012-13 and first team in 2013-14, is a part of good company. He is the first Newberry College men’s basketball player to receive an All-American nomination since Hall of Famer Brandon Hughes who during the 1999-2000 season, was named to the Daktronics All-American second team.
Walker and the Wolves open the 2014-15 regular season at the Little Four Classic in Hartsville against Erskine on November 14 and North Greenville on November 15.
