Wolves ease to 87-57 win over Barber-Scotia

CONCORD, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves closed out an undefeated non-conference season on Thursday night with an 87-57 road win over the Barber-Scotia Mighty Sabers at Newsom Gym.

Newberry moves to 8-1 overall entering Sunday's 2 p.m. game with 20th-ranked Lincoln Memorial in Eleazer Arena.

Newberry was led by Mitch Riggs (Langwarrin, Victoria, Australia), who scored 19 points on 5-of-6 three-point shooting with four free throws.

Dondray Walker (Fountain Inn, S.C.) scored 13 points with eight rebounds, five assists and two steals and Demarkus Smith (Johnston, S.C.) scored 10 points with three assists.

The Wolves never trailed by more than two points in the game and would lead by as many as 34 points before the end of the second half.

Newberry shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58) from the field and made 14-of-31 (45.2 percent) of its three-point attempts. The charity stripe was kind to the scarlet and gray as well, with Newberry connecting on 79.2 percent (19-of-24) of its free throws.

The Wolves held a massive 47-27 edge on the boards, with 16 offensive rebounds resulting in 12 second chance points.
