NEWBERRY - Newberry College head men's basketball coach Dave Davis has announced the hiring of Rob Perron as assistant coach for the Wolves starting in the 2012-13 season.

Perron was most recently the director of basketball operations for the Charlotte 49ers for the past five seasons. He has over 10 years of collegiate coaching experience, including three years as the head coach at St. Andrews (2003-05).

Perron is no stranger to the all out, all the time style of Davis, as he served as Davis' associate head coach at Pfeiffer in 2005-06 and also assisted Davis at Pfeiffer for three seasons (2000-02). In his four years at Pfeiffer with Davis, the Falcons had an 81-37 record.

He is a 1996 graduate of St. Andrews, and started his coaching career there as an assistant from 1997-99. He was a team captain and team MVP for the Knights. He scored over 1,100 points with over 700 rebounds in a four-year playing career which also included two seasons at Normandale (Minn.) Community College.

Perron and his wife Stephanie have two children, Carter and Stella.
