NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College men's basketball coach Dave Davis has announced the signing of Australian Mitchell Riggs.

The 6-foot-5 guard represented the Frankston Blues on a United States Tour last year and was the team's leading scorer. Mitch was selected to represent Australia in the Nike “All Asia” Camp, where he was selected to the All-Star team.

He was a member of the prestigious Under 17 Australian world championship team in 2010. His Under 18 Frankston Blues team won the Victorian Championship Reserve Competition in both 2009 and 2010 and Riggs was named Grand Final MVP both years. Mitch also represented Victoria in the Under 18 National Championship Tournament where he was the Grand Final's leading scorer.

“Mitch comes to us with a wealth of basketball experience for a college freshman,” said Davis. “He is a big guard who can play just about anywhere on the floor and another guy who can really shoot the basketball. Getting bigger versatile players is always a key for us and we are extremely fortunate to be adding a player of Mitch's skill level to our program. This is another prize recruit orchestrated by my assistant coach Justin Furr, who saw Mitch play when he was on his USA tour last year.”
