GREENVILLE, S.C. - Newberry College head men's basketball coach Dave Davis was a featured speaker at the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association (SCACA) annual coaches clinic on Wednesday, July 28.
The week-long clinic, which was held at the Carolina First Center in Greenville, brings in speakers from around the country and state to speak on various topics to high school and college coaches of South Carolina.
Davis spoke on the Newberry fast break and the philosophy behind the up-tempo system he employed at Pfeiffer University for 14 years before taking over at Newberry in April.
The teams coached by Davis led Division I and II in scoring five of the past 10 years and averaged over 103 points per game in 2010.
Other speakers at the clinic included Clemson head coach Brad Brownell, Wofford head coach Mike Young, Winthrop head coach Randy Peele and The Citadel assistant coach Rob Burke.
“It was a tremendous honor to speak to the coaches of South Carolina and share the plan at Newberry,” said Davis. “I was able to meet a ton of coaches from all over the state that will be invaluable in our recruiting efforts. We really want to recruit this state hard and we were very fortunate to land three guys that will all have a chance to impact our program late in the recruiting period. The opportunity to attend the clinic was also a tremendous learning opportunity as I was able to listen to all of these other quality coaches.”
