NEWBERRY, S.C. - Dave Davis, men's basketball coach at Newberry College is pleased to announce 6-foot-1 guard Brandon Riley of Baltimore Community College at Essex will join the Wolves' roster for the 2010-11 season. Riley was an all-region and all-conference player this season at Essex while averaging 17 points per game and six rebounds.
Riley had 29 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the regional tournament against Hagerstown and scored 21 points in the second half against Harford in the Maryland state tournament. Riley can play the point or the shooting guard position and was the MVP of the Maryland State Junior College All-Star game. He is originally from Severn, Md., and is a graduate of Old Mill HS.
"Brandon was an excellent leader for us and has an uncanny ability to get to the basket," said Essex coach Mike Francis. "He is fearless going to the goal against much bigger opponents."
"We are excited to get a player of Brandon's ability this late in the recruiting game," Davis said. "Brandon is an outstanding player who can shoot, drive, pass, defend and rebound. He is really a complete player and an excellent guy to start building our program around."
