NEWBERRY, S.C. - Justin Furr, one of the nation's brightest young assistant coaches, has been hired as assistant men's basketball coach at Newberry College, it was announced by head coach Dave Davis.
Furr comes to Newberry after serving as an assistant coach at UNC Wilmington for the past four seasons. Prior to his time at UNCW, Furr coached two seasons at High Point University. He previously served stints at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Wingate University and Pfeiffer University.
Furr's time at Newberry will mark his second stint working with head coach Dave Davis after the pair were together at Pfeiffer for two seasons. He helped the Falcons become the first team in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) history to go undefeated with a perfect 18-0 mark.
A native of Stanfield, N.C., Furr played four seasons at Wingate, where he earned the Coach's Award and served as team captain. He helped Wingate land an NCAA Division II Tournament berth his senior season.
After his two seasons at Pfeiffer, Furr then moved on to his alma mater and coached two years with Parker Laketa at Wingate. During his time, the Bulldogs made an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in 2002 and shared the South Atlantic Conference regular season title in 2003.
Furr served as associate head coach at St. Andrews under Rob Perron for one season in 2003-04 before making the move to High Point in 2004-05.
Furr graduated from West Stanly High School in 1995 and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management from Wingate in 1999.
