Kyle Steinway hired as assistant men's basketball coach at Newberry College

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College and head men's basketball coach Steve DeMeo are pleased to announce the hiring of Kyle Steinway as assistant men's basketball coach.

Steinway will have responsibilities with every aspect of the men's basketball program at Newberry with emphasis on recruiting, talent development and scouting opposing teams. He will also be an integral part of practice planning and execution.

"I've known Kyle Steinway for almost 10 years, since he started as student manager at Providence, working his way all the way up the ranks to assistant coach," DeMeo said. "He's always been very professional and very thorough in everything he's done. I expect him to be a big part of building Newberry College basketball into a national level program."

Steinway, a 2003 graduate of Providence College, joins the Newberry College staff with experience at the Division I and Division II levels in multiple capacities. As an undergraduate at Providence, Steinway was a manager from 2000 to 2003. He served as an assistant coach at Division II Stonehill College in the 2003-04 season and worked in the sports information department at Iona College in the 2004-05 season.

The Newburgh, N.Y., native returned to Providence in 2005, serving as a graduate assistant for the basketball program until earning his master's degree in 2007. He then served as the Friars' video coordinator for the 2007-08 season before working in the private sector during the 2008-09 season.

"I'm very pleased to be here at Newberry College to begin this stage of my career," Steinway said. "I've known coach DeMeo for a long time, and I'm excited to contribute as an assistant coach and be a part of the program he's building here."
