INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Newberry College men's basketball team is ranked seventh in this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Regional rankings, which were released today. The top 10 teams in each region are listed each week, with eight teams from each region making the NCAA Tournament in March. The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 4, 2009.
Newberry (17-6 overall, 7-5 South Atlantic Conference) rose spot from last week's rankings after defeating Catawba on the road. The scarlet and gray are one of four SAC teams in the region's top 10.
League co-leaders Tusculum are ranked sixth, Catawba is ranked eighth and Lenoir-Rhyne enters the rankings in the tenth spot.
The Peach Belt Conference holds the top four spots in this week's rankings. Augusta State is now in first place, followed by USC Aiken. Armstrong Atlantic State is third and Georgia College and State is fourth
Conference Carolinas is represented by Barton College in fifth and Mount Olive College in ninth. The Southeast Region is comprised of Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference and the South Atlantic Conference.
Newberry will attempt to climb the SAC standings and regional rankings with an 8 p.m. tipoff against Tusculum College tonight in Eleazer Arena.
