NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College head men's basketball coach Jeremy Luther announced the hiring of Travis Dotterer as assistant men's basketball coach. Dotterer has been working with the Indians since early July, and has recently returned from the recruiting trail.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to work at Newberry College for Coach Luther and to have my family be a part of this wonderful community," Dotterer said.

"Travis is a great hire for Newberry College and the Newberry Basketball program," Luther said. "He brings a ton of head coaching experience and he is one of the best Xs and Os coaches in the business. He is a rising star and for my first hire as a head coach I could not have gotten a more qualified person anywhere at any level."

Most recently, Dotterer was head boys basketball coach at Mount de Sales Academy in Macon, Ga., from 2000 to 2007. His teams made the GISA AAA Elite Eight four times, and he was named the Region 2AAA Coach of the Year in 2005-06. Mount de Sales was a GISA AAA Final Four team under Dotterer's direction in 2000-01. In seven years as head coach at Mount de Sales, Dotterer compiled a record of 104-88.

Dotterer went to Mount de Sales after serving Clarksville-Northwest High School in Clarksville, Tenn., as assistant boys and girls basketball coach from 1998-2000.

He was head boys basketball coach at Mount Vernon Christian/Whitefield Academy in Atlanta, Ga., from 1995-98, and head boys basketball coach at Killian Hill Christian School in Lilburn, Ga., from 1993-95. All told, Dotterer has been a head coach at the high school level for 12 of his 14 years in coaching.

Before entering the coaching field, Dotterer was a four-year letter winner in basketball at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., graduating with a bachelor of science degree in Secondary Math Education in 1993. He was a three-year team captain and was named a TVAC Academic All-Conference pick and an NCCAA Academic All-American honoree.

A native of Indiana, Dotterer is married to his wife Kimberly and the couple has two children, Tyler (9) and Jackson (6).
