Newberry College head men’s basketball coach Shaun Golden announced the addition of two players for the 2006-07 campaign today.  Phillip Udom, a transfer from USC Aiken, and Bradley Cumalander, a guard from Mid-Carolina High School, will suit up in the Scarlet and Gray next season.

Udom, a 6’8”, 250-pound post player, is a native of Lagos, Nigeria.  He redshirted at USC Aiken this past season.  Branded as a strong physical specimen, he is expected to grow as a player with hard work and should flourish in Golden’s system.  “I am very excited about working with Phillip,” Golden said. “He will give us much-needed depth in the post.  I feel like Phillip has a chance to surprise a lot of people.”

Cumalander, a 6’1”, 180-pound guard, comes from nearby Prosperity and is a product of Mid-Carolina head coach and former Newberry Indian Zeb Reid.  He averaged 14 points, five rebounds, and nearly two steals a game for the Rebels.  “Bradley is a fine young man with a bright future,” Golden said.  “He is athletic, shoots the ball well, and is very competitive.  He will make a great addition to the College and the men’s basketball program.”
