ROCK HILL, S.C. – Newberry's Zach Chandler was named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Chandler, a junior from Greenville, S.C., averaged 14.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 70 percent (14-of-20) in leading Newberry to a 3-0 week with wins over North Greenville (74-68), Presbyterian (82-67) and Tusculum (66-64).
On the road against North Greenville Monday, the Roane State Community College transfer scored 14 points and added five rebounds and four assists before tallying 16 points in victory over the arch-rival Presbyterian at home Wednesday.
Chandler finished the week with a 14-point and four-assist performance on the road against Tusculum on Saturday.
Newberry is on its first four-game winning streak under Indian mentor Shaun Golden.
The South Atlantic Conference Player Of The Week is voted on by the league's eight sports information directors.
