Cedric Williams

POSITION Assistant Head Coach/OL

Cedric Williams enters his fifth season coaching the offensive line at Newberry in 2015.

Williams has interned with three NFL teams as part of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship Program. He participated in the program in 2015 with the Minnesota Vikings, in 2013 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and in 2012 with the Carolina Panthers .

He was promoted to assistant head coach prior to the 2013 season. In 2012, the Wolves allowed less than a sack and a half per game while battling the injury bug. In 2011, the Wolves ranked second nationally in Division II for fewest sacks allowed, giving up only five sacks in 10 games.

Willams came to Newberry after one season as the offensive line coach at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Miss. The Delta Devils allowed 58 sacks in the year prior to Williams’ arrival and allowed only 24 sacks in the 2010 season, one of the biggest turnarounds in Division I-FCS history. In 2009, Williams was the offensive line coach at Tennessee State University.

An alumnus of the University of South Carolina, Williams also coached the Gamecocks from 2006-08 and helped guide them to the 2006 Liberty Bowl and 2008 Outback Bowl. Before working in the football capacity at South Carolina, he served as an activity therapist for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. His duties included mentoring and designing athletic programs.

Williams was a first-team all-SEC performer for the Gamecocks in 2000. He was a starter on the offensive line from 1999-2002 and helped his team to two Outback Bowl wins (2000 and 2001). He was named a Preseason All-American and all-SEC in 2001.
Williams, a native of Charleston, S.C., graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Sports and Entertainment Management in 2003.

He is married to the former Richelle Grant. The couple lives in Charlotte, N.C., and are the proud parents of a daughter, Nina.
