DANBURY, Conn. – Junior kicker Kevin Weber has been named Division II Special Teams Player of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference, giving Newberry the conference's special teams honoree for two consecutive weeks.
Weber, a transfer from former South Atlantic Conference member Brevard, handles kickoff duties and lengthy field goal attempts for the Wolves. On the first drive of the game, his 45-yard field goal became Newberry's longest in 17 years. He added another from 40 yards out in the fourth quarter and now stands at 2-for-2 on field goal attempts this season.
He also kicked off 10 times for a 63.4-yard average and tallied four touchbacks. He now has seven touchbacks on 19 kickoffs this season.
Weber's award gives Newberry three conference players of the week this season. Chance Walker swept Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the ECAC and South Atlantic Conference a week ago.
Other Division II ECAC honorees include Jhalen Bien Aime of Pace (Offense), Anthony Howard of Gannon (Defense), and Gannon's D'Won Walker (Rookie).
