NEWBERRY - A slew of special events will take place surrounding Newberry's home opener against Virginia University of Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon as the Wolves kick off their 96th season at Setzler Field.

Hurricane Relief Donations: Members of the football team will be stationed outside the gates to accept donations for hurricane relief from fans on their way into the game.

Donations can be canned goods, bottle waters and paper products. Examples of preferred donations are: pop top canned goods (soups, pastas, fruit, Spam, etc.), handheld can openers, peanut butter and jelly, water, snacks (cereal bars, Pop-Tarts, protein bars, etc.), baby food/formula, diapers (both adult and baby), feminine hygiene products, and toiletries (toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, etc.).

Flag Raising Ceremony: Approximately 15 minutes prior to kickoff, Newberry will honor the 2016 South Atlantic Conference championship football team by raising a SAC championship flag in the North end zone.

Game Ball Delivery: The official game ball for Saturday's contest against the Dragons will be the same ball from Newberry's title-clinching win over Wingate in November. Be in your seats 13 minutes before kickoff for the start of the special ceremony.

Lutheran Day: Newberry will celebrate Lutheran Day during the game.

Hall of Fame Recognition: Following the Scarlet Spirit Marching Band's halftime performance, Newberry will recognize each of the five inductees into the Newberry College Athletics Hall of Fame. An formal induction ceremony will take place inside the Center for Teacher Education at 11:00 a.m.
