“I’m excited that we are extending Todd Knight’s contract,” Patterson remarked. “Todd has done a phenomenal job in leading our football team, and we're happy to be in a position to reward his efforts while making sure he'll be able to continue building a championship program at Newberry College.
“In addition to his outstanding coaching, Coach Knight has also helped Newberry in our capital campaign and we look forward to our continued fundraising activities that will provide the for our new stadium, additional athletic facilities and academic space. We are proud that Todd Knight is our coach.”
Knight is among the most successful coaches in the more than 100 seasons of Newberry football, accumulating the fifth-most wins of any coach in school history and posting the second-highest winning percentage of anyone that coached multiple seasons within the program.
“I’m very appreciative and grateful that I’m able to continue coaching this program,” said Knight. “I’ve been here for 16 seasons and I cherish every one of them. Tina and I are looking forward to as many seasons at Newberry as the Good Lord will let me have.”
“In Coach Knight we have an individual who truly understands and embraces all the responsibilities of being a head coach,” added President Dr. Maurice Scherrens. “He puts the student-athlete first in everything he does and they leave our program as a better person for having been associated with him and his coaching staff. He is a good man and a great ambassador both for Newberry College and for college athletics. I hope he stays as our head coach for a long time.”
Knight has the Wolves receiving votes in the latest national poll after four straight wins. The Wolves can claim sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic Conference with a win at Mars Hill Saturday afternoon.
