MYRTLE BEACH - Newberry College senior cornerback Sharon Irwin has accepted an invitation to participate in this year's D2/NAIA Challenge at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium on Saturday, December 20.

The Staten Island, N.Y., native is the second Newberry player to accept an invitation to a postseason all-star game, joining outside linebacker Edmond Robinson, who will play in the East-West Shrine Game in January.

Irwin was named third team all-Super Region Two by the Beyond Sports Network on Monday and earned first team all-South Atlantic Conference honors in November.

He finished fourth in the conference with three interceptions in his senior season, including an 87-yard return for a touchdown to ensure a victory at UNC Pembroke. He also had picks in the season opener at Charleston Southern and the home finale against Carson-Newman. He totaled eight passes defended on the year. Irwin also had 33 total tackles and three tackles for loss on the year.
