AUSTIN, Texas - Newberry College's A.J. Booker and Evan Sobocinski have been honored on the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 football team, which was released Thursday. Both Booker and Sobocinski are repeat honorees for the award, with Booker earning the honor in all three eligible years.

The Academic All-District honorees are required to carry a minimum 3.3 grade point average and be contributors to the team's success.

A.J. Booker (Spartanburg, S.C.) is a three-time Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and was named a national semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy earlier this season. Booker is a team captain as well as a member of the Order of the Gray Stripe. In his career, the senior has made 89 tackles with 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries. He was the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on September 15 following the Wolves' win over Limestone.

He has excelled in his academic pursuits as well, currently holding a 3.66 grade point average in Newberry’s nursing program, with a minor in biology. He intends to go into the pediatric nursing field following his graduation from Newberry. He has been a member of the Dean's List in each semester he has been enrolled at Newberry College and is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Evan Sobocinski (Lexington, S.C.) is a a two-time Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. The offensive lineman has been a starter at center for most of his career in the scarlet and gray and carries a 3.72 grade point average with a double major in business administration and education. The junior has been a member of the Dean's List in each semester he has been enrolled at Newberry College and is a member of the Summerland Honors Society and Phi Beta Lambda.

Booker and Sobocinski are the only Division II players from the state of South Carolina to earn the honor in football this season. The South Atlantic Conference had 16 honorees in football this season, while the state of South Carolina had 12, including the Newberry duo.

These two Wolves will advance to the ballot for Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America status, which will be announced in December.
