INDIANAPOLIS - Former Newberry College wide receiver Corey Washington proved to be the New York Giants' hero late in the game yet again, as he caught his third straight game-winning touchdown in the Giants’ 27-26 win over Indianapolis on Saturday night.
With tonight’s 4-yard touchdown catch from Ryan Nassib with 55 seconds left in the game, Washington has caught the game-winning touchdown in all three of the Giants’ preseason games. He has also caught a 73-yarder against Buffalo and a 3-yarder against Pittsburgh.
In the three games so far, Washington has caught seven passes for 116 yards, including three catches for 20 yards against the Colts. He also drew a pass interference call which set up the touchdown play.
For the second consecutive Saturday night, Washington’s late catch set the social media world ablaze, as he was trending on Twitter in New York City.
Giants’ Hall of Famer Tiki Barber tweeted “Another game, another TD for Corey Washington! Doing a lot to defy odds and make the squad.”
Elsewhere in NFL action for Newberry on Saturday, Packers tight end Brandon Bostick had one catch for nine yards in Green Bay’s win over St. Louis.
Buffalo cornerback Kamaal McIlwain made one tackle in the Bills’ 19-16 loss at the Steelers.
