CANTON, Ohio - Newberry College alumnus Corey Washington notched the most important play of the NFL's Hall of Fame Game at Fawcett Stadium, as he clinched the New York Giants' 17-13 win over the Buffalo Bills in his NFL preseason debut.

Washington earned his playing time in the latter stages of the third quarter and each of the Giants' series in the fourth quarter. He was targeted once by quarterback Ryan Nassib, where Washington out-jumped Bills' cornerback Michael Carter and sprinted for a 73-yard touchdown, finishing it off with his familiar high-step across the goal line.

He finished as the game's top receiver in terms of yardage, as no other receiver in the game had more than 49 yards. This included Buffalo star rookie and former Clemson All-American Sammy Watkins, who had no receptions.

NFL.com instantly marked Washington's thrilling catch as a "Can't Miss Play" on its video highlights page, while Giants.com named it the play of the game in their instant analysis.

Also of note in the game was Buffalo cornerback Kamaal McIlwain. The Newberry alum entered the game at the same time as Washington, even covering him on five plays in the fourth quarter - but not the touchdown. McIlwain had two taclkes in the game, including making a stop to force a third down just short of the line to gain.
