INDIANAPOLIS - Newberry College rising sophomore Rashard Alston is one of 44 players who have been selected to represent the United States on the 2014 U.S. Under-19 National Team, assembled by USA Football and announced Wednesday.
The Goose Creek native will be on the U-19 team which will compete in the 2014 International Federation of American Football Under-19 World Championship, an eight-nation tournament on July 7-16 in Kuwait City, Kuwait. IFAF is composed of 64 nations spanning six continents that possess a national federation dedicated solely to American football.
The U.S. Under-19 National Team includes athletes representing 20 states and will compete in a field against national teams from Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Kuwait and Mexico.
Alston participated in four games for the Wolves in the 2013 playoff season and will pick up valuable experience in Kuwait as one of the running backs on the USA roster along with Shaquille Anderson of Thomas More (Conn.) and Josh Stevens of Merced (Calif.).
