Monday, November 4, 2013

WACO, Texas - The Newberry College football team is ranked No. 21 nationally in this week's American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches' Poll, released Monday.

Newberry (8-1 overall, 5-1 South Atlantic Conference) jumps four spots following a 28-21 win over Brevard last week. The Wolves travel to Carson-Newman, which is tied for 25th, on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff in Jefferson City, Tenn.

The Wolves received 144 votes in this week's polling after netting 59 votes a week ago. Two past opponents are ranked - No. 14 UNC Pembroke and No. 18 Lenoir-Rhyne.

This is Newberry's third week in the 2013 season as a top 25 team and the 25th appearance since the poll debuted in 2000. Newberry is 16-9 all-time as a ranked team.

This weekend's game will be Newberry's seventh game with two opposing ranked teams. Carson-Newman has been the opponent in two of those games previously, with the scarlet and gray going 1-1 in those contests.
