INDIANAPOLIS - The Newberry College Wolves are ranked second in the initial NCAA Division II Super Region II rankings of the 2013 season, as released Monday. The Super Region rankings are the official rankings for playoff qualification.

The Wolves (7-1 overall, 4-1 South Atlantic Conference) have three games remaining in the regular season, with the top six teams in the Super Region on November 17 qualifying for the NCAA Division II Football Championship playoffs. The top two teams receive a bye to the regional semifinal round.

This marks the second-best NCAA regional ranking in school history, as the 2006 SAC Champion and playoff team was ranked first in the old Southeast Region for five weeks. Only three regional rankings will be released prior to the playoffs this season.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which won the head-to-head matchup with Newberry, is ranked first in the region. UNC Pembroke, which lost to Newberry last weekend, is ranked third. West Alabama is fourth, Tuskegee is fifth and North Alabama is sixth. Sitting in the non-qualification spots are Carson-Newman in seventh, Delta State in eighth, Valdosta State in ninth and Wingate in 10th.

Key games in region this week feature Carson-Newman at Lenoir-Rhyne, West Alabama at North Alabama and Delta State at Valdosta State.

Newberry hosts Brevard for a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday at historic Setzler Field.
