ROCK HILL - Newberry College kicker/punter Kyle Clark has been named the South Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second straight week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Clark, a native of Beaufort, had another great week in the Wolves' 24-10 win over Mars Hill, as Newberry moved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in SAC play for the second straight year.
He had five punts for an average of 44.8 yards, including a 71-yard punt in the second quarter. He also had a 53-yarder later in the game. For the season Clark is averaging 38.6 yards per punt. His 71-yard punt is the longest in the conference this year and the eighth longest in Division II this season.
Clark also nailed a 40-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, which extended Newberry's lead to 17-7 at halftime. He has made 3-of-4 field goal attempts this season, as well as 10-of-11 PAT attempts.
This is Clark's second straight SAC honor, after winning it following the shutout win at Catawba to open conference play. This week's other honorees were Catawba wide receiver Carlos Tarrats and Catawba linebacker Jason Taylor.
