ROCK HILL - After helping to lead the Newberry Wolves to a 35-32 season-opening win at Elizabeth City State last weekend, Edmond Robinson has been named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Robinson, a junior outside linebacker from Wadmalaw Island, is the South Atlantic Conference leader in tackles for loss after making three stops behind the line of scrimmage in the win at ECSU. He had seven total tackles and a pass breakup. The junior matched his tackle for loss total from last season in the first game of 2013.
As a team, the Wolves held the Vikings to 3.0 yards per carry for a total of 77 yards and limited ECSU to 2-of-12 on third down conversion attempts.
Other SAC honorees this week were Carson-Newman quarterback De'Andre Thomas and Catawba kicker Chad Hollandsworth.
