BROOKFIELD, Ill. - The Don Hansen Football Committee has released the 2011 Don Hansen All-Super Region Two squad, and Newberry College's Apollo Stretch and Chase Gamble are on the squads.
Stretch, a junior from Columbia, was named to the second team defense at linebacker, while Gamble, a senior from Dallas, N.C., was named to the third team at center.
A first team DAKTRONICS all-Super Region Two and all-South Atlantic Conference performer, Stretch finished as the conference leader in tackles per game at 10.5 stops per contest and 105 total tackles. He had eight tackles for loss and three sacks. He had double-digit tackle numbers in five of the 10 games, including 17 in the Bishops Trophy game at Lenoir-Rhyne. He averaged 11.1 stops in conference games.
With his second team all-region honor, Stretch is eligible to be named to the Don Hansen All-American team.
Gamble earns his second all-region honor after being named a DAKTRONICS second team all-region player. A first team all-SAC player, Gamble started every game the last three seasons and was this year's starting center on an offensive line which finished the regular season ranked second in the country in sacks allowed at 0.5 per game, allowing just five sacks in the Wolves' 10 games.
