NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College linebacker Apollo Stretch earned DAKTRONICS All-Super Region Two first team honors, while center Chase Gamble earned second team honors, it was announced today.
Stretch, a junior from Columbia, advances to the DAKTRONICS All-American ballot after tying for the most votes in the linebacker category. A first team all-South Atlantic Conference performer, Stretch finished as the conference leader in tackles per game at 10.5 stops per contest and 105 total tackles. He had eight tackles for loss and three sacks. He had double-digit tackle numbers in five of the 10 games, including 17 in the Bishops Trophy game at Lenoir-Rhyne. He averaged 11.1 stops in conference games.
Gamble, a senior from Dallas, N.C., earns second team all-region honors after earning first team all-SAC honors two weeks ago. Gamble started every game the last three seasons and was this year's starting center on an offensive line which finished the regular season ranked second in the country in sacks allowed at 0.5 per game, allowing just five sacks in the Wolves' 10 games.
