OAKLAND, Calif. - Former Newberry College defensive back Ron Parker has been signed to the active roster by the Oakland Raiders, as announced by the club's official Twitter feed Saturday afternoon. Parker is the first former Newberry player on an active roster since Herbie Spencer played three games for the Atlanta Falcons in 1987.
Parker was originally an unsigned free agent with the Seattle Seahawks. He was moved to the Seahawks' practice squad following the final round of preseason cuts, but Seattle released him from the practice squad last Thursday. Oakland added Parker to its practice squad on Monday and activated for Sunday's game today.
Based on available information, the Raiders' game vs. the Patriots at 4:15 EDT Sunday will be carried live on CBS for those in the Charleston area who receive WCSC Live 5. For others near Newberry, the game will only be available live on DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket package.
Parker will wear the number 36 jersey for the black and silver-clad Raiders.
