FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - Newberry College cornerback Kamaal McIlwain has agreed to terms with the Atlanta Falcons, as reported by the team's official website late Wednesday evening. McIlwain's signing is a historic moment for the Newberry football program, as this is the first time Newberry has had two players on an NFL roster at the same time.
McIlwain posted 25 tackles (20 solo), two interceptions and eight passes defended in 2010 after being named a Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference second team selection. He also averaged 33 yards per kick return including an 80-yard return for a touchdown in the season finale against Wingate.
He was also named all-South Atlantic Conference second team as a junior, as well as DAKTRONICS all-Super Region Two second team, Don Hansen's Football Gazette all-Super Region Two Second Team and all-SAC first team during his breakout sophomore season.
Over the course of his career, McIlwain made a total of 93 tackles with six interceptions, 24 pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, four blocked kicks and two touchdowns.
Teammate Ron Parker also finds himself on an NFL roster as training camp begins, as he signed a deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday.
