BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Newberry College defensive lineman Arterio Arnold has been named a second team preseason All-American by Lindy's Sports Magazine, as announced by the publication recently.

Arnold, a 6-foot-2, 300-lbs. junior from Greenville, earns his first career All-American honor after a spectacular first season for the Wolves in 2010. Arnold was a second team all-South Atlantic Conference selection after leading the conference in tackles for loss per game, with 1.4 stops behind the line of scrimmage per game. He had 72 total tackles in 2010, with 14 tackles for loss, three sacks and nine quarterback hurries. He notched a career-high 13 tackles against Carson-Newman.

Arnold is the only defensive player from Super Region II named to the Lindy's preseason team, and one of four SAC players on the preseason squads. Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell and wide receiver Deonte' Gist were first team honorees, and Mars Hill running back Jonas Randolph was a second team honoree.

Arnold and the Newberry Wolves start the 2011 season at historic Setzler Field on September 3 against North Greenville. The season opener is set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
