MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Former Newberry College wide receiver Kelton Tindal has agreed to terms with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings on Sunday evening according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Judd Zulgad.
Tindal, whose sub 4.4-second 40-yard dash time had some draft expert projecting him as a late round draft pick, was not among the 255 players selected in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Vikings will hold a three-day rookie mini-camp in Winter Park, Minn., next weekend according to Zulgad.
The Sumter native becomes Newberry's first NFL free agent signing in over 10 years. Rico Cannon signed as a free agent with Philadelphia in 1997 and Oakland in 1999. No Newberry player has been drafted since 1974.
Tindal is among 10 rookie undrafted free agents signed by the Vikings on Sunday after the completion of the draft. Tindal will join QB R.J. Archer of William & Mary, OG Thomas Austin of Clemson, OT Matt Hanson of Midwestern State (Texas), C Tommy Hernandez of UC-Davis, WR Aaron Rhea of Stephen F. Austin, SS Terrell Skinner of Maryland, WR Ray Small of Ohio State, CB Angelo Williams of Ferris State and OT Marlon Winn of Texas Tech as undrafted free agents in Minnesota.
