NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College head football coach Todd Knight has announced the team's annual Spring Game will take place at noon on Saturday, April 17, at historic Setzler Field as part of an exciting day of athletic contests on the Newberry campus.
The spring game starts at noon and will last approximately an hour and a half. Instead of the Offense-vs.-Defense format used in the game in recent seasons, this year's game will feature a true Scarlet vs. Gray format, in which the coaching staff will "draft" two teams from the available student-athletes. Punting plays will be limited contact, but all other plays will happen exactly as they would in a regulation game.
The team will also be collecting donations at the gate, with all proceeds going directly to Boys Farm. Boys Farm, Inc., serves as a haven for boys experiencing difficult family situations and is celebrating its 50th year of operation. The residential youth care ministry located in Newberry believes in making a difference in the lives of boys by providing a healthy, stable environment which helps them grow into productive young men with a positive outlook on the future.
The game will precede the South Atlantic Conference finales and Senior Day for the softball and baseball teams, both of which will take place on campus at 2 p.m. that day, allowing a chance for everyone in attendance to catch at least two exciting sporting events on campus. The baseball team will square off against Brevard, while softball is slated to take on Tusculum.
