OGDEN, Utah - Former Newberry College wide receiver Charles Brandon has signed a contract with the Ogden Knights of the American Indoor Football Association, the team announced Monday.
Brandon, a Union native, played at Newberry from 2004-07 and is one of the school's all-time leading receivers. He finished his career tied for second in school history in touchdown receptions (16), seventh in receptions (93) and seventh in receiving yardage (1,396).
The Knights expect Brandon's speed and consistency to help boost the team's AIFA championship aspirations in 2010. The team finished 4-10 in 2009. According to the Knights' website: "Within an offense, nothing compares to the comfortably of a player who is always there. Charles Brandon brings that comfort and reliability to the table, and adds his talent and athleticism to make him an important part of the Knights Championship aspirations."
The AIFA has teams scattered throughout the country, including the South Carolina Force and the Florence Phantoms in the Palmetto State. Ogden plays in the West Division with New Mexico, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
