Newberry football ranked ninth in initial Super Region Two Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - The Newberry College football team is ranked ninth in the first Super Region Two rankings of the season, which were released by the NCAA today.

Newberry (3-2 overall, 1-1 South Atlantic Conference) defeated Catawba College, 40-21, last weekend to help solidify its position in the top 10 of the region. The Super Region consists of the South Atlantic Conference, the Gulf South Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Six teams from the Super Region will qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs in November.

This weekend's opponent - Mars Hill College - is ranked 10th in the Super Region in the initial poll. Also in the poll from the South Atlantic Conference is Carson-Newman College at third.

The Gulf South Conference is represented by undefeated North Alabama in the top spot, Ouachita Baptist University in fifth and Delta State University in seventh. The SIAC is led by Albany State University in second, followed by Fort Valley State University in sixth and Morehouse College in eighth. Independent UNC Pembroke holds the fourth spot.
