LIBERTY, Mo. - The Newberry College football team moved up four spots to No. 16 nationally in this week's Media Poll, which was released today.

Newberry moved to 2-1 overall this week, defeating Cumberland (Tenn.) University, 20-3, in the home opener on Saturday night. Newberry held the Bulldogs' offense to 80 total yards, marking the first time Newberry has held its opponent under 100 total yards since 2001.

The scarlet and gray are one of two South Atlantic Conference teams ranked in the Top 25 in this week's poll. Catawba College (3-0) moved up one spot to No. 11 after taking last week off. Catawba hosts Mars Hill this Saturday.

Elsewhere in Super Region Two, the Gulf South Conference is represented by only two teams this week, as Valdosta State dropped out of the poll following a loss at Ouachita Baptist. North Alabama is still ranked third nationally with a 4-0 record and Delta State moved up one spot to 10th nationally with a 2-1 record. The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference also has two teams in the Top 25 with Albany State moving up five spots to 17th nationally with a 3-0 record and Tuskegee moving up one spot to 22nd nationally with a 3-1 record.

Newberry opens conference play against unranked Carson-Newman (2-2 overall) this Saturday. Kickoff at C-N's Burke-Tarr Stadium in Jefferson City, Tenn., is set for 1 p.m. For ticket information, contact the Carson-Newman ticket office at (865) 471-3396. Media Poll
