NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College football team will host a Fan Appreciation Day at Setzler Field this Saturday, August 15, beginning at 1 p.m. The team's second intra-squad scrimmage of the preseason will take place at 9:30 a.m.
This event will give fans the opportunity to meet all of this year's players and first year head coach Todd Knight. The players will interact with children in games designed for the younger crowd and the Newberry College Cheerleaders will be there to help get the crowd excited for the upcoming season.
"With this being our second full scrimmage of the preseason, we should look a lot better than we have earlier in camp," Knight said. "We look forward to people enjoying the morning with us and sticking around in the afternoon as we pull together as a family for Fan Appreciation Day."
The first 15 children through the gates will receive a children's Newberry College football jersey compliments of the Newberry College Athletic Club. Also, members of the coaching staff will participate in a dunking booth, with all proceeds going to charities.
The 2009 Newberry College football poster will make its debut at the event and all players will be available for autographs and photographs throughout the event.
"This is such an exciting time of the year as we prepare for the start of the football season," said Newberry College athletic director Brad Edwards. "Fan Appreciation Day is one of those wonderful opportunities for us to say thank you to our friends from across the community and in the media for their partnership prior to the opening kickoff."
The event is also held in conjunction with the team's media and picture day as the scarlet and gray prepare for the 2009 season, which starts at Valdosta State on August 29.
Tickets will also be available for the team's four home games at Setzler Field this year. The home slate starts on September 19 against Cumberland (Tenn.) University and is followed up by Homecoming against Mars Hill on October 10. Newberry hosts Tusculum on October 24 and closes out the regular season against Brevard on November 7. All home games start at 7 p.m.
