NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College Football team was honored Saturday afternoon and received its 2008 South Atlantic Conference Championship rings.
It was a great day for the scarlet and gray as they participated in their spring football game prior to the ring ceremony. After the game, parents and student athletes were treated to a catered lunch before each player walked across the stage to receive a championship ring.
Over 45 members of the Newberry College Community stepped up to the plate and donated rings. Each sponsor had an opportunity to personally give a ring to one of the student athletes and congratulate them for their championship achievements.
The ceremony would not have been possible without the ring donors and the crowd showed its appreciation with a standing ovation. After the ceremony was complete, the players gathered one last time to take a photo op with their rings.
Founded in 1856, Newberry College is affiliated with the South Carolina, Southeastern, Florida-Bahamas, and Caribbean Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Newberry is a proud member institution of the NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference, a league comprised of eight colleges and universities in North and South Carolina and Tennessee.
