INDIANAPOLIS - The Newberry College football team is ranked ninth in Super Regional Two (formerly the Southeast Region) in this week's NCAA Division II Football Regional Rankings, which were released today.
Newberry (3-3 overall, 2-1 South Atlantic Conference) dropped three spots from sixth place after Saturday's 27-6 loss at Mars Hill. The scarlet and gray are one of four SAC team ranked in the top 10 in Super Regional Two. Wingate is in the second spot, while Tusculum is in the fifth spot. Carson-Newman is just behind Newberry in tenth.
At the end of the season, the top six teams in each Super Regional will qualify for the NCAA Division II Football playoffs. Earned access to the playoffs can be gained by a conference if a conference representative finishes in the top eight of the final super regional rankings.
Newberry will look to move back to the top of the South Atlantic Conference standings and shake up the Super Regional this Saturday with a crucial matchup against undefeated Wingate (7-0, 3-0 SAC). Kickoff at Setzler Field is slated for 7 p.m.
