Newberry climbs back into AFCA Top 25

WACO, Texas - The Newberry College football team is ranked 25th nationally in this week's American Football Coaches' Association Division II poll, which was released Tuesday morning.

Newberry (3-2, 2-0 South Atlantic Conference) returns to the Top 25 after a two week absence. The scarlet and gray defeated then-No. 20 Catawba, 33-14, on Homecoming night last Saturday to move into a tie for the South Atlantic Conference lead. This is the 23rd week Newberry has been ranked in the AFCA poll, and the fourth week this season.

The scarlet and gray are tied atop the South Atlantic Conference standings with Wingate (6-0, 2-0 SAC), which is ranked 15th in this week's poll going into its game with Lenoir-Rhyne. Other Newberry opponents in the poll are Valdosta State (10th), Carson-Newman (21st) and Midwestern State (22nd).

Newberry returns to action this weekend, attempting to stay atop the SAC standings. The scarlet and gray will visit the Lions of Mars Hill College on Saturday.
