INDIANAPOLIS - The Newberry College football team is ranked sixth in Super Regional 2 (formerly the Southeast Region) in the initial NCAA Division II Football Regional Rankings, which were released today.
Newberry (3-2, 2-0 SAC) is one of three South Atlantic Conference teams ranked in the top 10. Wingate University (6-0, 2-0 SAC) is in the second spot, while Tusculum College (4-2, 1-1 SAC) is ranked fifth. Newberry takes on Wingate on October 18 and Tusculum on October 25.
At the end of the season, the top six teams in each Super Regional will qualify for the NCAA Division II Football playoffs. Earned access to the playoffs can be gained by a conference if a conference representative finishes in the top eight of the final super regional rankings.
Newberry will look to stay on top of the South Atlantic Conference and move up in the Super Regional rankings this Saturday, as the scarlet and gray take on Mars Hill College (3-3, 0-2 SAC) at 2:30 p.m. in Mars Hill, N.C. Newberry has won the last three matchups against the Lions.
