NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College football team has achieved a ranking of 20th nationally in this week's Media Poll, which was released today. Newberry was ranked 23rd in the poll last week.

Newberry (1-1) jumped three spots in the poll following an impressive 41-3 victory over North Greenville at Setzler Field last Thursday. Newberry is now 9-0 in the all-time series against NGU. The scarlet and gray now rank in the top five nationally in scoring defense and sacks per game following the win.

NC is one of three South Atlantic Conference teams ranked in the Top 25 by and will face the other two ranked league opponents in the next three weeks.

Newberry opens SAC play at home on September 27 against Carson-Newman College, which is ranked eighth nationally this week. On October 4, Newberry will host Catawba College for homecoming. Catawba is ranked 23rd in this week's poll.

The scarlet and gray hit the road this week for a matchup with Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Kickoff from Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium on Saturday is slated for 8 p.m. Eastern (7 p.m. local).
