NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College football team has been ranked 19th nationally in the preseason poll, which was released today. This is the highest preseason ranking the scarlet and gray have earned this season.

Newberry, which finished the 2007 season with a record of 9-2, has been continuously ranked in the Top 25 since September of 2006. NC finished the 2007 season ranked 19th nationally.

Three of Newberry's opponents are ranked in the Top 25 to begin the season, including this week's opponent. Defending national champion Valdosta State (1-0) holds the top spot in the preseason poll.

On September 27, Newberry opens South Atlantic Conference play against Carson-Newman College, which is ranked fifth. Catawba, which is ranked 14th, will come to Newberry for homecoming on October 4.
