NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College head football coach Zak Willis will speak at the next meeting of the Newberry County Touchdown Club, it was announced today. The meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 25 at the Community Hall in downtown Newberry.
Willis and the 20th-ranked Newberry football team are in preparations for the season opener against No. 1 Valdosta State on August 30. Newberry is coming off of a 9-2 season and currently holds a 15-game home winning streak - the third longest in Division II.
NC associate athletic director for external operations Matt DeWitt also begins his first year on the Touchdown Club board and is excited to have the chance to represent Newberry College within the community.
“I am honored to have an opportunity to serve on the board for the Newberry County Touchdown Club," DeWitt said. "Football in Newberry has been a huge part of my life and I am glad to have a chance to give back to a sport and community that has done so much for me personally.”

DeWitt joins Senn, Art Boozer, Jimmie Coggins, David Dorroh, Chan Franklin, LeMont Glasgow, Hugh Gray, Brian Hare, Chris Martin, Milton Price, C.A. Shealy, Wilson Senn and Trey Taylor on the NCTC board. The Newberry County Touchdown Club was formed in 1999 and has about 75 members. Featured speakers over the years have included Rich Rodriguez (Michigan), Bobby Johnnson (Vanderbilt) and Rick Stockstill (Middle Tennessee).
