Football participates in final preseason practice

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College football team participated in a light practice session on Setzler Field on Friday afternoon in preparation for Saturday morning's scrimmage. ADVISORY - Saturday's scrimmage has been rescheduled for 8 a.m.

Head Coach Zak Willis:
On goals for Saturday's scrimmage: "We'll look at different ssituations and see how we execute and what our continuity is like as a team. Is everybody working hard? I think that's been answered. Are we mentally tough enough? I think that question's been answered. Now it's just down to polishing and executing and doing things the right way every time and setting our depth chart one more time."

On expectations of performance in the scrimmage: "I want to see the offense do well in third down situations. When the No. 1 offense is out there, I want to see them do the things they're supposed to do. Defensively, I want to see them get some stops. We're going to set it up tomorrow where we've got the 1's against the backups, so I want to see the 1's win. Now, I want to see some good competition and we'll be looking for people to make a move on the depth chart and people can do that from either side."

Saturday's scrimmage will begin at 8 a.m. and is open to the public.
