NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry Parks and Recreation Football Camp was held at Setzler Field on the Newberry College campus this week, drawing its biggest participation yet. Newberry College head football coach Zak Willis came and spoke to the approximately 60 campers before the final session Wednesday.
The campers took advantage of learning fundamentals and techniques on Setzler Field's artificial surface for the second consecutive season. Coach Willis told the campers about three key areas they need to be successful in if they want to play college football one day.
Willis' speech focused on listening to your parents, listening to your teachers and coaches and paying attention to lessons you learn in church. Willis reminded the youngsters that staying out of trouble and getting good grades will help make you a successful person and a successful player.
The camp enjoyed its best year yet at Setzler Field and hopes to continue to grow each year. For more information on Newberry Parks and Recreation programs, contact the department at (803) 321-1015.
