Indians jump to Top 10 in D2Football.com poll

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College Indians are ranked No. 10 nationally in this week's D2Football.com Media Poll, which was released this morning.

The Indians moved up one spot from No. 11 following a 64-9 win over the University of West Georgia Wolves. The Newberry defense converted five turnovers into 28 points, while Antonio Patton and Andre Moyd each returned kickoffs for touchdowns.

Newberry received a little help from St. Joseph, Mo., as the Missouri Western State University Griffons knocked off the Gorillas of Pittsburg State University, 39-32, on Saturday. Pittsburg State had previously been ranked No. 10 and drop to No. 21 in this week's poll.

Newberry's opponent in Saturday's South Atlantic Conference opener, Carson-Newman College, is ranked No. 11 in this week's poll. Next week's opponent, Catawba College, is ranked 15th. Wingate is ranked 23rd.

Kickoff for Saturday's matchup against Carson-Newman is slated for 1 p.m. at Burke-Tarr Stadium in Jefferson City, Tenn. The game will be available for viewing on the NCAA's Division II webstream at http://www.cstv.com/ncaa/divii/
