Indians rise two spots to No. 14 in AFCA poll

WACO, Texas - The Newberry College Indians jumped two spots to No. 14 in the latest AFCA Division II Coaches' Poll, which was released today.

Newberry (1-0) was a 67-0 victor over Chowan University on Saturday. Antonio Patton (Woodruff, S.C.) returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown to earn South Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

The 67 point total was Newberry's highest point output since a 69-0 win over Erskine in 1915. Quarterback Eric McCollom (Camden, S.C.) was 6-for-8 passing for 89 yards with two touchdowns in his Newberry debut.

The Indians will face off against CIAA opponent Bowie State University (0-1) on Saturday in Newberry.

Newberry is one of three SAC schools listed in this week's rankings, as Carson-Newman earned the No. 9 spot and Catawba entered the poll at No. 21.
