Indians ranked No. 14 in D2Football.com poll

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College football team is ranked 14th nationally in this week's D2Football.com poll, it was announced today. This is the third consecutive week the Indians have held the spot in the polls.

The Indians defeated Chowan University, 67-0, on Saturday, racking up 485 yards of offense and allowing only 127 yards to the Hawks.

Alex Haynes scored three rushing touchdowns while rushing for 85 yards on eight carries. Derek Young ran for 110 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns.

Quarterback Eric McCollom was 6-of-8 passing for 89 yards and two touchdowns in his debut as an Indian. Four different Indians - Alex Haynes, Tharry Salley, Corey Smalls and Derek Young - ran for scores.

Antonio Patton returned a punt for a 61-yard touchdown, while Ryan Lukshis connected on 6-of-8 extra points.

The Indians host Bowie State University on Saturday. Kickoff for the Service Appreciation Day game is slated for 1 p.m.
